Ramblings on this & that
So, I've decided to start reading hard copies again...
Now, this may not seem like a noteworthy event, but as it turns out, it's been more than two years since I've picked up a real live book. Crazy, right?
Since I was gifted my Kindle Paperwhite back in 2020, I haven't felt the need to read or purchase another hardcopy; genuinely being perfectly content with all of the inherent conveniences that owning an eReader has to offer. That, along with the fact that I've moved a whopping nine times over the last four years, inevitably led me to the conclusion that hardcopies are both unnecessary and impractical.
And so, dear reader, I got rid of every. single. one. of my books.
Yup, you read that right. Looking back, I can't believe it myself.
Anyways--
What led me to make this decision, you might ask? Well, it's kind of silly actually. A few weeks ago, after hitting my reading goal for 2022, I decided to dedicate the rest of the year to finally finishing Outlander (the entire series, not just the first book). And for some reason still unbeknownst to me, I deemed it entirely necessary to own the actual, hardback copies prior to embarking on this (indubitably very long, but hopefully, very gratifying) journey.
With my mind made up, I drove myself to my local Barnes & Noble's, purchased the first three books in the series, and that was that. A fire was lit within me.
A book buying fire, specifically.
I'm now three-quarters of the way through Dragonfly in Amber, and if I wasn't a Diana Galbadon stan before, I definitely am now. I've honestly never said this about a single male protagonist-- but James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser is the perfect fictitious man. He's so gentle, patient, sincere, and wholly consistent in his love for Claire. It makes me tear up just thinking about it.
With that being said, I'm well aware that Galbadon gets a lot of flack for being a bit superfluous in her descriptions and historical backstory, but thus far into the series, it really hasn't bugged me. She's so clearly in love with her characters and the world she's created, I can't bring myself to fault her. Right now, I'd say Fergus is the character I'm the most emotionally attached to. Maybe it's because I have a younger brother around the same age, but every time he's mentioned, I just want to scoop him up, squeeze him, and tell him how much he's loved. Ugh. He deserved so much better.
Alright, I've officially run out of things to say. Until next time,
<3 G
